Position Summary

Full-Time | On-Site with Travel As-Needed
Reports to: Head of Operations

The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of Stahla Services’ truck and specialty trailer fleet.

You’ll work on everything from trucks and towing equipment to restroom, shower, and laundry trailers. That means this isn’t a job where you’ll perform the same repair every day. Our specialty trailers contain plumbing, electrical, HVAC, pumps, tanks, water systems, generators, and other components that all need to work together.

Your job is simple in principle: keep our fleet safe, reliable, and ready to serve customers.

Essential Job Functions

• Diagnose and repair mechanical issues across company trucks, trailers, and specialty equipment
• Perform preventative maintenance and scheduled service on fleet vehicles
• Complete truck repairs including brakes, suspension, steering, electrical, batteries, and other mechanical systems
• Inspect, maintain, and repair trailer brakes, bearings, axles, suspension, tires, lighting, wiring, and towing components
• Troubleshoot and repair specialty trailer systems including plumbing and water systems, pumps and tanks, electrical systems, HVAC equipment, water heaters, generators and power systems, and fixtures, doors, hardware, and structural components
• Diagnose equipment failures and determine the best repair instead of simply replacing parts
• Inspect all new equipment upon arrival to ensure it meets our standards and is in excellent working condition before entering the fleet
• Respond to on-site urgent equipment issues when needed to keep jobs moving
• Travel to company shops and job sites as needed, including occasional week-long trips, to provide on-site equipment repair and maintenance
• Perform pre-trip and post-repair inspections to ensure equipment is safe and operational
• Maintain accurate service and repair records
• Identify recurring equipment problems and recommend long-term solutions
• Maintain an organized shop, tools, parts, and maintenance area
• Work with Operations and Logistics to ensure readiness for upcoming jobs and fleet needs
• Assist with equipment preparation and other shop responsibilities when needed

Preferred Talents

• Professional experience as a fleet mechanic, diesel mechanic, truck mechanic, trailer mechanic, heavy equipment technician, or similar role
• Are comfortable working on both vehicles and trailers
• Understand brakes, bearings, axles, suspension, electrical systems, and general vehicle maintenance
• Are comfortable troubleshooting 12V and 120V electrical systems
• Have experience with plumbing, HVAC, generators, pumps, or similar systems
• Can use diagnostic equipment, hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment safely
• Can look at an unfamiliar problem, figure out how the system works, and find a solution
• Care about preventative maintenance instead of waiting for equipment to break
• Work independently without needing someone constantly checking your work
• Keep a clean, organized, and safe workspace
• Take pride in doing repairs correctly the first time

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional experience in fleet maintenance, automotive/diesel repair, heavy equipment repair, trailer repair, RV technician, or a related mechanical field
• Commercial truck or medium/heavy-duty fleet experience
• Trailer brake, axle, suspension, and electrical repair experience
• Experience troubleshooting 120V electrical systems
• Plumbing, pumps, water heaters, or water-system experience
• HVAC troubleshooting and repair experience
• Welding and light fabrication experience
• CDL or ability/willingness to obtain one
• Experience maintaining specialty, mobile, RV, utility, or vocational equipment

Hours

• General workday is 7AM-3PM
• Weekend work included as needed

Working Environment

Job expectations to be onsite. There are no remote capabilities for this position. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to indoor and outdoor conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
