We’re excited to share that Stahla Services Co-owner, Grant Stahla, was recently back on Enterprise Radio with host Eric Dye. This time, the conversation focused on a crucial aspect of successful job sites: how quality restroom trailers are key for Omaha construction projects, enhancing both efficiency and worker morale.

Providing essential amenities is about more than just compliance; it’s about respect and productivity. If you missed the broadcast, we’ve compiled the key takeaways Grant shared on supporting Nebraska’s hardworking construction crews.

The Essential Role of Restroom Trailers on Omaha Construction Sites

Eric Dye dived right in, asking why restroom trailers are so important for Omaha construction. Grant’s answer highlighted immediate, practical benefits:

“Boy, let me tell you, when it’s cold and blowing snow and people’s hands are cold, you need to go in a space that’s heated. It has got hot running water where you can go use the restroom, have a break, in peace and then go back out and get to work.”

He emphasized that for construction workers, these facilities provide “a reset” allowing them to “perform well, think better and have a better working experience.” It’s about dignity and the ability to comfortably attend to basic needs, which directly impacts job performance.

Weathering Omaha: Trailer Customizations for Extreme Conditions

Omaha’s weather can be challenging, with both freezing winters and hot summers. Grant explained how Stahla Services customizes trailers to cope:

  • For the Cold: “We make sure that all of our trailers at Stahla Services have heaters. They’re insulated… we make sure those [waste tanks] are heated and then there’s a valve at the end of the waste tank… we make sure that’s heated.” He also mentioned, “We can bring in skirting… to go around the trailer and make sure that underneath of it stays warm.”
  • For the Heat: “In the summer temperatures, we have a nice big air conditioner to pump cold air in and make sure each stall is cool.”

The goal is to ensure a consistently comfortable and functional environment, preventing issues like frozen water lines and providing relief from extreme temperatures.

Common Site Facility Mistakes & How to Improve (More Stalls, Better Placement!)

Grant addressed common oversights construction firms make regarding on-site facilities:

  1. Not Enough Stalls: “One thing that we see as a mistake often is not getting enough stalls… if you’re serving 50 employees… you need to make sure you have enough stalls. So maybe you need a six stall restroom trailer for those fifty employees so that there’s enough stalls and work doesn’t have to slow down cuz people are are waiting in line.” This is crucial, especially during peak times like after lunch.
  2. Poor Placement on Large Sites: “These sites are huge,” Grant said, referencing projects like data centers and large manufacturing facilities (mentioning Norfolk Iron and ADN). “Making sure that maybe you have a few smaller trailers, you have them all over the site… within, I would say a couple 100 yards of where people are.” This minimizes downtime spent walking long distances. This can also include considerations for shower trailers if locker room facilities are needed.

Stahla Services also offers a range of solutions, including ADA restroom trailers, to ensure all site accessibility needs are met.

Serving Council Bluffs, Fremont, and Beyond

The conversation extended to serving nearby communities. Grant expressed enthusiasm for working in these areas: “Man, Council Bluffs and Fremont, two awesome places we really enjoy going to those locations with restroom trailers, shower trailers… We can absolutely travel and and bring a trailer… to those locations. So yeah, no problem at all.”

This includes supporting remodels, large commercial facilities, and even private events like weddings on acreages in these areas.

Boosting Worker Morale: The Power of Premium Sanitation

Perhaps one of the most significant, yet often underestimated, benefits is the impact on worker morale. Grant passionately explained:

“Imagine you’re at a big construction site and it’s 100° out. Would you rather use a porta potty or would you rather go in an air conditioned restroom trailer? I think that the answer is obvious.”

He continued, “It’s so hard to find good people… We want to make sure that we’re treating our people right. We keep them. We keep them engaged. We keep them employed longer and we make sure that their work is more pleasant.”

Key features that contribute to a better experience include:

  • Climate control (A/C and heat)
  • Insulation
  • Running water
  • Sound systems for privacy
  • Private, clean stalls

“You just you need a restroom trailer. You need running water,” Grant concluded. “Who doesn’t like having actual good clean running water to be able to wash your hands after using the restroom?” This also applies when supporting retail stores like Target or Costco during their own construction, ensuring their employees have quality facilities.
