We’re excited to share that Stahla Services was recently featured on the Business as Mission podcast, where our co-owners, Grant and Erin Stahla, discussed our journey building a faith-driven company that’s redefining the portable sanitation industry. During this engaging conversation with host Mike, we explored how our restroom trailers and shower trailers have become essential solutions for events, emergencies, and communities in need—while staying true to our core mission of doing business with integrity and purpose.
What We Discussed: Positioning Premium Sanitation Solutions
When most people hear “portable restroom,” they picture basic port-a-potties. That’s why we were grateful for the opportunity to clarify what we actually offer. Our restroom and shower trailers are nothing like traditional portable sanitation. We’re talking about upscale, climate-controlled facilities with running water, porcelain toilets, actual soap, and the kind of experience you’d expect from a quality hotel bathroom. Grant founded this business after discovering these trailers while in his final year at the University of Nebraska, recognizing immediately that there was a massive gap between what customers expected and what the industry was delivering.
Mike actually gave a perfect example during our conversation—he mentioned seeing our trailers deployed in western North Carolina after Hurricane Helen devastated the region. When communities lost water, plumbing, and electricity, our equipment wasn’t a luxury; it was essential infrastructure. That real-world impact is exactly why we’re so passionate about this business, even though Grant started as what he calls “business agnostic”—not passionate about the specific product, but deeply passionate about providing genuine value to customers and creating an excellent employee experience.
Accessibility & Capacity: Meeting Diverse Needs Across the Nation

One thing we emphasized during the interview is that our trailers serve vastly different markets and purposes. We offer multiple configurations to meet specific needs: 2-stall restroom trailers for smaller gatherings, 4-stall, 6-stall, and 8-stall restroom trailers for larger events and festivals, premium ADA-compliant restroom trailers in 1-stall and 3-stall options for accessible facilities, and our shower trailers ranging from 2-stall configurations up to our 16-station shower trailer for major operations. We also provide specialized solutions like our laundry trailers, decontamination trailers, and combo trailer rentals that combine restroom and shower capabilities.
This flexibility matters because we’re serving weddings in remote fields without power or water access, construction sites, large festivals, disaster relief operations, migrant communities, homeless support initiatives, and everything in between. The common thread is that everyone deserves dignified, clean facilities—and our job is to deliver that with excellence.
Real-World Impact: Stories That Drive Our Purpose

During our conversation, Mike asked us about a particular moment that crystallized our mission. We discussed our partnership with Love Justice International, an anti-human trafficking organization. Grant and Erin shared how this partnership emerged from a deeply personal conviction. Erin has been passionate about combating human trafficking since junior high, consuming everything she could learn about the issue. When the question became “how do we use our business to make a real difference in the world,” Love Justice became the natural answer.
What moved us most was articulating the connection between daily work and global impact. We’ve committed to tying our company profitability directly to this partnership. Since October—our first profitable month—we’ve been able to help intercept and support nearly 750 people who would have otherwise fallen into trafficking situations. And here’s what really matters: every person on our team sees that number. We put it on our shop P&Ls. When a technician cleans toilets, services equipment, or closes a rental deal, they can see: “Because of our work this month, we’ve impacted X more people.” That connection between their labor and human freedom is transformative.
Design & Anatomy: What Sets Our Trailers Apart

Our trailers aren’t complicated, but they’re thoughtfully engineered. We’re talking about self-contained units with full plumbing systems, climate control, quality fixtures, and finishes that create an experience, not just a functional space. Whether you’re renting a 2-stall shower trailer for a small event or deploying a 16-station shower trailer for a major operation, you’re getting the same commitment to quality and dignity.
Grant shared that in his first year of operation, the business generated $30,000 in revenue. The next year: $115,000. The year after that: $250,000. That growth trajectory came from word-of-mouth because customers experienced something they didn’t expect—professionalism, cleanliness, and genuine care. Those early years built the foundation for what Stahla Services is today.
The Technicals: Operating Excellence and Growth Strategy
From an operational standpoint, we’ve had to evolve significantly. Early on, it was just Grant and the dog. Then Erin joined when they married, and the business transformed into a true partnership. They’ve been working together for about three and a half years now, developing what they describe as a methodical, thoughtful approach to shared leadership. Grant oversees certain operations while Erin leads others—not because they’re in each other’s way, but because they’re both driven to take something and push it forward, and they’ve structured the business to honor that.
We’ve also expanded from pure equipment rental into what we call our “asset-light” side of the business—brokering, logistics partnerships with other sanitation companies nationwide, and leveraging technology to coordinate operations more efficiently. The vision is to become the “special forces” of specialty trailers: exceptionally good at what we do, known for setting industry standards, and present wherever our customers need us across the nation.
The Mission That Drives Everything

As we’ve shared before, Grant and Erin Stahla are driven by a mission that goes beyond business. They are passionate about redefining portable sanitation through a company built on caring for people, delivering service excellence, and leading with faith. This includes their dedicated support of organizations like Love Justice International.
This core commitment to integrity and service is woven into every interaction at Stahla Services. When they made the hiring decision to be transparent about their Christian values while respecting team members’ own beliefs, they established a workplace culture where people encounter Christ-centered leadership daily—not through coercion, but through example. Core values like humility (they genuinely believe everyone in the company is a “toilet scrubber” in the best sense) and a commitment to doing business the way Jesus would guide every personnel decision, customer interaction, and financial commitment.
Closing Gratitude and Your Next Step
We are deeply grateful to Mike and the Business as Mission team for creating space for us to reflect on our journey and articulate why we do what we do. The conversation challenged us, encouraged us, and reminded us why this work matters. One moment particularly stuck with us: Mike’s insight that “the real challenge is not to do business for God, it’s learning to do business with God.” That’s the adventure we’re on.
